Jeremy Allen White spoke to Page Six exclusively at the 2025 Gotham Awards in New York City on Monday night. White revealed, “It was a tremendous amount of pressure. Bruce texted me almost every night. And he was on set very often.”

The 34-year-old actor quipped that without Springsteen’s supportive messages, he would have been “crying a lot more” than he already did. The film chronicles Springsteen’s tryst with fame, success, and the immense struggles he had to face just at the brink of superstardom in the early 1980s.

Scott Cooper, who wrote and directed the musical biopic, lavished praise on the 76-year-old legend. Cooper shared that making a movie on Springsteen’s life was a must-do on his movie bucket list. Cooper also feels that now is the right time to release the biopic because the world is “filled with noise and confusion and anger and hate.”

The director revealed Springsteen is such a “cultural icon,” which is “rare” these days. Furthermore, Cooper lavished praise on the “Born to Run” singer as “morally sound.” He shared, “I personally think Bruce Springsteen represents the best of us.”

White and Cooper won the Cultural Icon Tribute Award at the 2025 Gotham Awards. In their acceptance speech, White remarked, “We’re very grateful that Bruce allowed us into [his] space. And to tell a story he had never told himself and never mythologized.” He was unable to pronounce “mythologized” and simply quipped, “Sorry folks, I’m very tired.”

Previously, Jeremy Allen White discussed his extensive prep to step into Bruce Springsteen’s shoes in an interview with PEOPLE magazine. He revealed, “He had years and years of playing in rooms like this and in s****y P.A. systems and really testing his voice and training, and I didn’t have that. I didn’t have that time, so I needed to shout and that took me out. I remember recording ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ and losing my voice for a couple of days.”
