It seems like Google’s new feature will solve one of the biggest issues faced collectively by Android and iPhone users. Going forward, new phones in the Google Pixel lineup will have a quicker and easier way of sharing files with iPhones. This is because Google has now redesigned Quick Share to work with AirDrop in the latest generations of Google Android phones. This feature should soon trickle down to other phones in the Android lineup, leading to a more convenient approach.
iPhone and Android users can now share files using AirDrop
Many users in the US preferred the iPhone because of its easy sharing features, but sharing was limited to other Apple devices. This was also true for Google’s Quickshare, which could only share files with other Android devices. But this is going to change with Google’s latest feature.
Google revealed in its latest blog post. The post states that it is now making the newer Google Pixel phones (Pixel 10 onwards) compatible for sharing with Apple via Apple’s AirDrop. “Today, we’re introducing a way for Quick Share to work with AirDrop. This makes file transfer easier between iPhones and Android devices, and starts rolling out today to the Pixel 10 family,” Google wrote in the release.
“We built this with security at its core, protecting your data with strong safeguards that were tested by independent security experts. It’s just one more way we’re bringing better compatibility that people are asking for between operating systems, following our work on RCS and unknown tracker alerts,” they added.
With Google enabling the feature, other Android makers may follow suit, and it could hand other phones the technology to share with Apple iPhones, making it more convenient for use.
The feature is currently available in Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. It may take a few days before all users receive this feature.
