KJ Apa’s new biographical drama has hit the theaters today. The film also stars Rob Riggle, Jason Alexander, and more.
Jimmy has arrived in theaters today, November 6, 2026. The biographical film centers on the life of Academy Award-winning actor James “Jimmy” Stewart, portrayed by Apa. Aaron Burns directed the movie from the screenplay by Justin Strawhand.
What to know about Jimmy, the new biopic starring KJ Apa?
Jimmy chronicles a pivotal period in Jimmy Stewart’s life, beginning with his Academy Award win for Best Actor for The Philadelphia Story. It follows the legendary actor’s decision to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He became a combat pilot at the beginning of World War II.
Stewart had flown twenty missions over Europe at the time and eventually rose to the rank of colonel. The movie then traces his return home and his iconic role as George Bailey in the Christmas classic It’s a Wonderful Life.
Although Jimmy hasn’t been marketed as a Christian film, it has been associated with faith-based cinema due to its religious themes. The movie also explores Stewart’s Presbyterian upbringing and relationship with his father.
Jimmy has received mixed reviews after its premiere. However, many have praised Apa’s performance as the titular Hollywood icon. The Riverdale star recently opened up about his process of preparing for the role.
“I was working with a dialect coach, Eliza Simpson, at the time and she’s phenomenal. I worked with her every second of every day for Jimmy,” Apa told Variety. “I watched all his films. I would listen to him over and over and over again. You just have to spend a lot of time listening and repeating, listening and repeating, listening and repeating.”
In addition to Apa, Jimmy stars Jason Alexander, Max Casella, Rob Riggle, Sarah Drew, Neal McDonough, Julian Works, and Jen Lilley.
