The Oscar-winning filmmaker recently revealed a secret about Elizabeth Holmes after releasing You Can See Everything. Errol Morris said he has hours of unseen footage featuring the disgraced Theranos founder.
Morris is now considering releasing a previously unseen interview as interest in Holmes grows again after Nathan Fielder’s documentary. He revealed details about the project in a Variety interview.
“Because the company fell apart and she was prosecuted… but I can’t really answer it,” he revealed. “The clearest answer is that I’d moved on. But now I feel pretty strongly that this is an interesting document — not because I’m trying to prove something about Elizabeth Holmes, but it does provide some kind of evidence of what she was like when everything was going her way.”
Morris directed a series of Theranos commercials in 2015 after Holmes hired him. At the time, Holmes was receiving widespread attention as a successful technology entrepreneur, and Morris said he had no reason to believe she was committing fraud.
That changed as the Theranos scandal unfolded. Morris later tried to make a documentary about Holmes, but the project never moved forward because she was under indictment and facing major litigation.
What happens in Nathan Fielder’s You Can See Everything movie with Elizabeth Holmes?
Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s You Can See Everything follows Holmes during the weeks before she reported to federal prison in 2023. The documentary portrays her interactions with her partner, Billy Evans, and her attempts to defend her actions as she prepares to begin her sentence.
The film received strong reviews and significant audience interest. As of October 27, it holds a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 97. It has also earned Oscar buzz, with some critics suggesting it could become the first documentary nominated for Best Picture.
Holmes is serving an 11-year sentence for defrauding investors. Morris’ unseen interview could give another perspective on her public image and the beliefs she held before Theranos collapsed.
