An acclaimed Oscar nominee and Backrooms star may be in contention for a role in the upcoming X-Men reboot. The highly anticipated MCU movie will be directed by Jake Schreier.
Renate Reinsve’s name has surfaced alongside Emily Taaffe’s as a potential contender for a villainous role in Marvel’s untitled X-Men film. On X, Knight Edge Media’s Caleb Williams recently claimed that Reinsve, who stars in Backrooms, had a meeting with Marvel Studios about playing Moira MacTaggert, also known as Moira X. The character has previously appeared in live-action X-Men films, including The Last Stand, First Class, and Apocalypse.
At present, Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed Reinsve’s involvement, leaving the report strictly as an unverified industry rumor.
Reinsve’s previous comments about Marvel add an interesting twist to the casting rumor
The latest rumor may surprise Marvel fans, given Renate Reinsve’s previous comments about joining the MCU. The actress has expressed reservations about taking on a role in the franchise.
During an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast last year, the 38-year-old made her stance clear, saying, “I don’t have anything against it and I respect that, but I don’t think I could do it.”
When asked whether she would consider joining Marvel in the future, Reinsve replied, “It can’t happen. No, it won’t happen.” Explaining her reasoning, she added, “I’m so in love with indie movies, and you only have this much time.”
She also revealed that she had attended meetings with several studios. For now, however, the actress appears certain about the kind of projects she wants to pursue.
As for the X-Men reboot, its leading cast will include Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, alongside Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier/Professor X. Additionally, Adam Driver will play the antagonist Nathaniel Milbury/Mister Sinister.
The Untitled X-Men reboot will hit the theaters on May 5, 2028.
