Lindsay Lohan’s New Netflix Movie Has a Secret Mean Girls Connection Fans Will Love

Lindsay Lohan has reunited with Mean Girls director Mark Waters for her upcoming Netflix feature, Return to You, which has entered production. However, Waters isn’t the film’s only connection to the iconic teen comedy.

On social media, Mark Waters shared a photo of himself with Lohan at a location familiar to fans of the 2004 teen comedy. The duo reunited at the Heron house, the home of Cady Heron, Lohan’s character in Mean Girls.

“Re-uniting at the scene of the crime with @lindsaylohan – first day of shooting on Return to You was at the old Heron house from MG…” Waters captioned the post.

What is Lindsay Lohan’s new Netflix movie about?

Return to You stars Lohan as a successful but lonely attorney who discovers a heartfelt message on a DVD from a dying woman to her husband. Using the clues in the recording, her character sets out to find the intended recipient. The film’s story is set in 2008.

Apart from Lohan, the movie will also star Henry Golding from Crazy Rich Asians.

Return to You is far from the first Lindsay Lohan project to reference Mean Girls. In her 2022 film Falling for Christmas, Lohan officially released a recorded version of “Jingle Bell Rock.” The song famously featured in a key scene in Mean Girls, performed by Lohan alongside Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried.

Lohan has openly expressed her desire to work with Netflix and Disney, a move that appears to have helped revive her career. Dubbed the “Lohannaisance” by fans, the actress has landed roles in films and shows for both streaming giants.

Speaking about her plans to work with the two companies, she told Entertainment Weekly, “I had this thing in my head during COVID; I was like, ‘I want to work with Netflix and do a couple of movies, but I want to work with Disney again, too.’ It came to fruition because I believed it. Those things are meant to happen.”

Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for Return to You.
