Marvel Studios may be making another adjustment to the production schedule for Avengers: Secret Wars. The latest rumor suggests a change that could affect the film’s planned theatrical release.
Two industry insiders now claim that Avengers: Secret Wars will begin principal photography in January 2027 rather than later this year. X user @ApocHorseman was among the insiders to point out the January 2027 filming date. Daniel Richtman later backed up the same timeline. Earlier reports had pointed to November 2026, following several changes to the production schedule for Secret Wars, but it seems even that has altered.
Marvel Studios has not officially announced a filming start date, but it remains scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
The new filming date gives a clearer picture of Avengers: Secret Wars’ production plans
The reported delay follows several earlier changes to the production schedule. Secret Wars was previously expected to begin filming in mid-2026, but was later moved to August and then to later in the year. The latest rumors now point to January 2027.
The reported January start could give Marvel less time to complete filming and post-production if they do not alter the release. Insider Apocalyptic Horseman highlighted that moving the release is not inevitable. At the same time, another scooper, Alex Perez, confirmed the production delay but said they had not heard of a change to the release date.
Anthony and Joe Russo are directing the project, with Stephen McFeely writing the screenplay. Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the MCU film as Victor von Doom following his role in Avengers: Doomsday. Both Doomsday and Secret Wars are being produced at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom.
For now, Marvel Studios has not publicly announced a revised production schedule for Avengers: Secret Wars or any change to the December 17, 2027, release date. Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to arrive on December 18, 2026, almost one year before Secret Wars.
