The film’s ensemble also includes Rodrigo Santoro as Damian Zaldívar, Leila George as Kate, Adriana Barraza as Donna Zaldívar, Sullivan Stapleton as Josh, Peta Sergeant as Julie, Geraldine Hakewill as Monica, and Goran D. Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson lead a high-stakes action thriller movie
Runner sees Ritchson’s former soldier, Hank, work as a high-stakes courier. As a delivery guy, he gets tasked with bringing a new healthy liver across hostile territory to save a critically ill young girl. He is joined by his unlikely partner on this mission, Wilson’s Ben.
While safely transporting the organ is a tough job in itself, the two also have to evade ruthless mercenaries and other criminals who want their valuable cargo for their own benefit. In essence, the action-comedy movie is built around a relentless, high-stakes chase against a strict deadline.
As iconic as its plot sounds, the 98-minute film has received mixed reviews from critics so far. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, for one, the movie earned a critical approval score of 68%, based on 31 critics’ reviews.
While IGN Movies rated the film 6/10 for “Alan Ritchson’s well-practiced stunt craft as well as Owen Wilson’s likable comedic stylings,” Australia’s Daily Telegraph gave it 3/5, explaining, “While the Ritchson-Wilson banter is effective enough on the comedy front, Runner truly excels when it comes to its cleverly executed fight and stunt sequences.”
Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph (UK) gave it a spoiled 2/5, with reviewer Tim Robey pointing out “the uneasy blend of ingredients here – the goofiness, the gore, the tear-jerking sentiment and the havoc – that makes for a lumpy pudding.”
You can catch Runner in theatres now.
