Digger: Tom Cruise Announces Final Trailer Release Date for Absurd Comedy Movie

Tom Cruise has come out with the latest update for his absurd comedy film, Digger. Cruise took to his social media to announce when the final trailer for the movie will be out.

The final trailer for the film, as per Cruise himself, will hit the web on 9th September. The dark comedy film is a departure for Cruise from his action-oriented features.

What else do we know about Tom Cruise’s Digger movie?

Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the man behind several critically acclaimed films such as Birdman and The Revenant, revealed that at its core, Digger is a disaster movie. While similar films have externalized the apocalypse, Iñárritu’s movie substitutes an external armageddon with a force of nature that is often on the back foot in these types of films- human beings.

He said, “The disaster isn’t a comet or an earthquake, or an alien invasion. The disaster is us.”

The movie presents Tom Cruise as fans have literally never seen him before. Despite being 64, Digger will likley be the first time Cruise looks the part. Given the premise of the film, Cruise might have felt like an odd choice for the role, with his cementing of himself as an action star. However, it is undeniable that the man has also made a career for himself as a character actor, and it is that part of his stardom that he is bringing to a film like Digger.

According to the director, there are three “ancient forces” that the film’s entire premise, themes, and plot revolve around: greed, power, and responsibility. All these are shown in one way or the other through the chief point-of-view character: Cruise’s Digger Rockwell.

Along with Cruise, the film stars Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons, among others. The screenplay for the film was written by a four-member team, which included director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, along with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman.

Digger is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
