Margaret Qualley and Monica Barbaro might have a shot at being cast in Tom Holland’s next film. The Brand New Day alum also revealed that he has a lot of work to do for the project.
After taking over the summer box office as Telemachus and then as Peter Parker, Holland will be playing the role of Fred Astaire in his upcoming biopic. Qualley and Barbaro are currently being eyed for the role of Adele Astaire, Fred Astaire’s elder sister, as reported by Page Six. Both are classically trained ballet dancers.
Qualley was previously attached to a separate Fred Astaire biopic, this one starring Jamie Bell, that never went into production.
Fred Astaire, the subject of Holland’s film, was a celebrated dancer and performer who had a 75-year career that spanned stage, film, and television. Adele Astaire was a similarly celebrated dancer, singer, and performer who built a lucrative career with her younger brother.
How the Fred Astaire biopic could shape Tom Holland’s next major role
Tom Holland has revealed that he plans to do all the dancing that is required for the role of Astaire in the biopic. During his press tour for Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland revealed that he was looking forward to diving back into work for the biopic. This involved putting in some hours at the dance studio. He said, “I did my first few rehearsals recently, and it both filled me with excitement and absolute dread because I’ve got so much work to do to try and do Fred proud.”
The Odyssey and Brand New Day took the box office by storm, with both projects being able to crack into the billion-dollar club. It is safe to say that Holland has managed to establish himself as a serious star, able to bring in the big bucks even outside the MCU, something that his other films had struggled to do.
This also means that Holland might be stepping into the next chapter of his career. Regarding what he expects from his filmography now, Holland said, “And what I’m looking for in this next chapter is like the ultimate challenge, and to find things that really scare me.”
