Chris Hansen will star in the ad playing before Primetime, the upcoming crime thriller movie based on his reality television series To Catch a Predator. Robert Pattinson will play the popular TV presenter and journalist in the highly anticipated movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 66-year-old has bought preshow advertising at every theater screening of the upcoming A24 movie Primetime. In the ad, he will introduce TruBlu, his streaming network.
Hansen is best known for his Dateline NBC segment To Catch a Predator, where he exposed suspected sexual predators after luring them to an ordinary suburban home kitchen. The show earned him the nickname “The Predator Hunter.” His TruBlu will feature a similar format and continue investigating sexual predators.
The ad, which will play before Primetime, shows Hansen in the same kitchen setting as in his show. “I’m going to need everyone in the theater to take a seat right over there,” he says. “Now there are more platforms than ever before where this disturbing crime is being committed,” Hansen adds. He then concludes, “Join us undercover every day on my streaming network, TruBlu.”
Why Chris Hansen is keeping his distance from Primetime
Despite purchasing the preshow ad for Primetime, Chris Hansen continues to steer clear of the movie itself. He previously said he declined an invitation to see the film before its release. This is because he was required to sign an agreement prohibiting him from pursuing legal action against A24.
“The lawyers at A24 wanted me to sign away my rights to my name, image, and brand, essentially, as well as any potential legal rights that would come out of the movie,” Hansen said during an interview on Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime on Thursday.
He added, “I couldn’t sign that, so they didn’t show me the film. I went all the way over there. … But who’s going to sign something like that?”
Primetime arrives in theaters on September 25, 2026.
