An A-list Oscar nominee is joining the cast of a new Tom Hanks and Callum Turner movie. Directed by Marielle Heller, the movie is adapted from a Dave Eggers short story.
Deadline recently confirmed Patricia Clarkson’s inclusion in The Comebacker by Sony Pictures. Clarkson, who received an Academy Award nomination for her role in Pieces of April, will reportedly play the wife of Tom Hanks’ character in the film. Repped by CAA and Anonymous Content, the 66-year-old actor recently worked on What Happens at Night. Her co-stars in the Martin Scorsese-directed project were Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio.
What is Tom Hanks and Callum Turner’s new movie about?
The plot of the movie revolves around Turner, who plays the character of an emerging New York Mets pitcher. Sadly, things take a grim turn after he suffers a traumatic head injury. This forces his pitching coach, Hanks, to overcome new challenges as he navigates the ups and downs of this inspirational comeback story. The summary for The Comebacker, per IMDb, reads, “Follows a pitching coach whose life is upended when his major league pitcher is hit in the head by a line drive on the mound, changing everything.”
Heller and Eggers have both given input to the script of the movie. An update from Deadline further revealed that the filming locations will be in Queens and at Citi Field. Shooting the field scenes will be particularly easier following the Mets’ elimination from the playoffs.
The feature will be produced by Gary Goetzman (Playtone), Heller and Leah Hozler (Defiant By Nature), in cooperation with the New York Mets and Major League Baseball. Executive producer for the project will be Working Barnes has been listed as the executive producer for the project. The Tom Hanks baseball movie has been confirmed for a theatrical release date of July 30, 2027, by Sony.
