One of the original Avengers members in the MCU will reportedly return in Avengers: Doomsday. This will mark the superhero’s first appearance in the MCU in five years if true.
Who is reportedly coming back in Avengers: Doomsday?
According to scooper James Mack (via MCU Film News), Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, will return in Avengers: Doomsday. It should be noted that this is only a rumor at this time, and it should be treated as such, as Marvel has not confirmed Renner’s casting in the film yet.
Hawkeye was a founding MCU hero, first appearing briefly in Thor before becoming an Avenger in the 2012 film. However, Renner hasn’t been in an MCU project since his Disney+ series was released in 2021. A previous rumor also pointed to Hawkeye’s protege, Kate Bishop, appearing in Doomsday. The Hawkeye series ended with Barton taking Bishop under his wing after encountering the Kingpin and Echo. While fans have asked for a second season, one of the show’s producers revealed that figuring out the timing has been a thorn in Marvel’s side. However, Renner has been optimistic about returning in a potential Hawkeye Season 2.

Following the release of the Hawkeye show, Renner suffered a near-fatal accident after being run over by a snowplow. Fortunately, the actor recovered from his wounds and returned to acting in last year’s Wake Up Dead Man. Renner has appeared as Hawkeye in multiple Marvel projects, including voicing the character in Marvel’s What If…?
Avengers: Doomsday will deal with multiple realities colliding into each other as the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men take a stand against Doctor Doom. The film is also rumored to feature appearances from other Disney+ heroes, along with unexpected “hot scenes” between characters.
The first and only season of Hawkeye is streaming on Disney+. Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters on December 18, 2026.
