Avengers: Secret Wars may set the stage for Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated X-Men movie. This wouldn’t be all that surprising after the studio’s in previous movies. A great example of this is Captain America: Civil War, which served as the launching pad for two major movies: Black Panther and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
A previous report teased that the Marvel Cinematic Universe might introduce a younger X-Men team. Because of this, several 20-something actors have already been linked to casting rumors surrounding the high-profile MCU project. We’ve chosen six popular X-Men characters who are most likely going to be recast in Avengers: Secret Wars when it debuts on December 17, 2027. This way, fans can get a glimpse at the studio’s potential vision for the team.

As we get closer to the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fan theories about Stranger Things star Sadie Sink‘s character continue to ramp up. Since her casting was confirmed, it has been heavily speculated that Sink would be playing the MCU’s Jean Grey, especially when it has already been reported that she’ll be joining the Avengers: Secret Wars cast. Fans also pointed out that her character’s powers in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer seemingly have telepathic elements. This would certainly match the fan-favorite X-Men mutant’s signature psychic powers.
Besides Jean Grey, casting rumors about Rogue have also been making the rounds online. Previous reports suggested that Marty Supreme star Odessa A’zion and Yellowjackets star Sophie Thatcher are possibly being eyed for the X-Men MCU role. In a recent interview, Thatcher admitted that she would be interested in playing the character if she got to work with a collaborative director. Euphoria alums Hunter Schafer and Sydney Sweeney are also some of the popular names being linked to the project. It has long been rumored that Schafer was being considered by the studio for the role of Mystique, while Sweeney is reportedly slated for Emma Frost. Both characters are considered by Marvel fans to be complex anti-heroes. Like Thatcher, Schafer had also previously expressed her interest in the project.
In addition, recent casting rumors have positioned Iron Claw star Harris Dickinson as the studio’s potential top choice for the role of Scott Summers/Cyclops. Just like in the comics, Cyclops is reportedly set to become one of the leaders of the MCU’s X-Men team. After gaining recognition for his leading role in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Irish actor Peter Claffey’s name has also come up in a recent X-Men rumor. Claffey is said to be a possible casting choice for the role of Hank McCoy/Beast.
It would be a great undertaking for any of the new actors, especially with how popular these characters are. Fortunately, casting the right actors for Marvel roles has always been the studio’s strength. The X-Men MCU movie will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), with Michael Lesslie attached to write the screenplay. At the moment, the long-awaited project has no plot details, cast members, or official release date yet.
