Michael Douglas stepped away from acting last year but is now back for his beloved director’s new project. The Hollywood star had no plans to return soon but eventually had to.
What movie is Michael Douglas coming out of retirement for?
Michael Douglas has joined director Oliver Stone‘s upcoming movie, White Lies, reports Variety. Stone is a highly acclaimed filmmaker who is best known for Platoon, JFK, and Born on the Fourth of July, among others.
Back in mid 2025, Douglas clearly mentioned that he had “no real intentions” of returning soon after spanning almost 60 years in Hollywood. “I have not worked since 2022 purposefully because I realized I had to stop,” he revealed. “I had been working pretty hard for almost 60 years, and I did not want to be one of those people who dropped dead on the set.”
White Lies will reunite Stone and Douglas after their last project, 2010’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. It was a sequel to 1987’s acclaimed movie Wall Street, for which Douglas won the Best Actor Oscar.
Other White Lies cast members will feature Homer Gere, Ellen Barkin (Animal Kingdom, Ocean’s Thirteen, Sea of Love, This Boy’s Life), and Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse, Platoon, Poor Things).

It’s been confirmed that White Lies’ principal photography is now complete. It was shot across locations in Europe and Asia. “The cast was a delight from beginning to end. And the Italian crew was the warmest I ever worked with. I’m profoundly grateful for this opportunity,” said Stone while sharing his experience of filming the project. He has described the movie as a personal story about people and relationships.
White Lies has Fernando Sulichin, Maximilien Arvelaiz, and Jordan Gertner as the producers. Tarak Ben Ammar, Gianluca Leurini, and Jose Luis Manzano are serving as the executive producers.
White Lies has yet to receive an official release date window.
