$20,000 Lego Statue Destroyed By Child, An Hour After It Was Unveiled

The situation of a $20,000 anything being destroyed is going to tell you a lot about the character of everyone involved, even more so when it took three days and nights to build. Such is the case of a recent Lego sculpture which lasted mere minutes when pitted against a small child.

The sculpture in question, a 1.8m homage to Zootopia‘s Nick Wilde was on display at the Lego Expo in Ningbo, China. Now, picture the wonder and excitement of the first day of such an event. Said excitement was just too much for one kid who, within the first hour, came in like a preverbal AND literal wrecking ball, leaving the sculpture in pieces.

Alas, it wasn’t caught on film for all those out there – myself included – who would love to watch such a thing go down. But not everyone is as twisted as us. Especially not the sculpture’s creator, the artist known as Zhao who copped the news totally sweet.

Even though he had to rush to finish the piece both perfectly, and in time (“I took off some parts and put some on, over and over again, especially the eyes”), he was surprisingly chill about its destruction, telling local news “The child did not intend to break it.”

Too bad there isn’t an expo for art by widely understanding and accepting artists because Zhao would win top prize.

This is a very similar story to that one time last year that a child managed to put his hand through a $2 million Italian oil painting in Taiwan. Though as the artist had been dead for centuries, it’s been difficult to gauge his reaction.
