Your MySpace Might Have Been Hacked Since You Last Checked It

It may be time to dust off your old MySpace account and get back online just to check that your top eight friends are still who you thought they were in 2006.

But in all seriousness, it’s possible that more than 427 million MySpace passwords have been stolen, according to a report from Motherboard.

Paid hacked data search engine LeakedSource is currently hosting a database of 427,484,218 passwords as well as 360,213,024 email addresses linked to MySpace accounts.

LeakedSource user Tessa88 happened upon the data dump and reported it to the site, and whilst most data sets on LeakedSource are known to those hacked, the MySpace hack apparently went completely unreported. MySpace failed to make users aware of the issue, either because the site didn’t know, or because they tried to hide the breach from users.

Since then, a hacker known as Peace has put the collective data up for sale on online black market The Real Deal and is asking for 6 bitcoin (around $2,800 US) for the stolen passwords and emails.

In what may be one of the biggest password heists on record, the top most-used passwords have also been revealed. The top few include timeless classics ‘password1’, ‘123456’ and ‘myspace1’ – all with over 200,000 uses. Other honorable mentions go to ‘123abc’, ‘qwerty1’ and ‘fuckyou1’.

Here are the most frequently used passwords according to LeakedSource.
