NAIAS 2016: Ford Teams with Lego to Build ‘Speed Champion’ Sets

Not everything at NAIAS 2016 had to be big and serious and portend the future of human mobility. In fact, not everything had to be made of steel, aluminum, carbon fiber and glass.

During the wee hours of the first Press Day here in Detroit, Ford announced a partnership with Lego to offer new Mustang and F-150 Raptor Speed Champion sets.

Lego’s dedicated line for car fans young and old, the Speed Champion series offers model kits featuring everything from modern racers to popular sports cars via automakers from around the world. The two Ford kits are the latest editions to the series and feature one of Ford’s big NAIAS 2016 debut vehicles, the new F-150 Raptor.

The F-150 Raptor set is $49.99. The 664-piece F-150 Raptor set includes a garage, a trailer, that drag racing starter “Christmas tree” and a Model A hot rod — just so the included Lego mechanics have something else work on away from the Raptor.

For $14.99, the 185-piece Mustang kit includes its own driver/mechanic and a time board for lap readings.

Both sets should arrive in Lego Stores and at Toys ‘R’ Us locations across the country in March.
