Infiniti Design San Diego Cuts its California Ribbon

Infiniti added a California voice to its design culture recently with the opening of the Infiniti Design Studio San Diego. It’s the fourth such studio in the world, joining with London and Beijing – all working with the Infiniti HQ, the Global Design Center in Atsugi, Japan.

The Design Studios work together to offer support resources such as clay and digital modeling, with all work on site exclusively reserved for the independent Infiniti team.

The San Diego facility will be led by Infiniti Executive Design Director Alfonso Albaisa, fresh off assignments in London and Atsugi. Infiniti’s statements claim the automaker wants to add some of the “California vibrancy” to Nissan design. With the state’s high tech, biomedical research and arts communities all around the new studio will look to empower Infiniti with fresh energy.

Infiniti uses its design studios to generate concepts and engineering specs for their consistent and aggressive new product portfolio and a steady line of concept cars — including Q30 Concept, Q60 Concept and QX30 Concept. By distributing the work on these top secret creation of these concept cars across four different design spaces, Infiniti can keep the work compartmentalized and the new ideas secure.
