Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance: 2016 Lexus LX 570

The new, restyled Lexus LX 570 SUV could’ve easily settled for maximizing on-road comfort. Instead, it’s set up to handle rougher off-road use with sophisticated ease.

The LX 570 is the Lexus full-sized SUV, and the latest incarnation that debuted here at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance makes most of its significant changes in the aesthetics department.

According to Lexus, only the LX 570 door panels remain from 2015. The front end wears a more aggressive version of the Lexus signature grill, enhanced by satin chrome trim and new standard LED headlights, turn signals and fog lights.

To handle its blended duty, the LX 570 makeover packs new 20-inch split 10-spoke wheels, with  21-inch 10-spoke wheels available.

In motion, driving modes include ECO for fuel-efficient driving, COMFORT for the smoothest ride possible, SPORT S for defter handling and more rugged suspension and SPORT S+.

The LX 570 is still powered by its signature 5.7 liter V8 producing 383 horsepower. That engine provides 7,000 pound towing capacity, insuring the LX will power through dirt as easily as pavement even while bearing a load. An eight-speed automatic transmission replaces a six-speed for better performance.

The LX also adds standard several safety features. The new Standard Lexus Safety System includes 10 standard airbags, Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Intelligent High Beam (IHB) and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control tracks the speed of the vehicle traveling ahead and can adjust speed to help maintain a preset distance. The 570’s Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and a Heads-up Display shows information such as speed, warning and navigation.

The LX 570 will go on sale late this year, and we should get a drive test for it before the new year.
