Samsung Galaxy S7 Dubbed “Most Powerful Smartphone Ever” After Breaking Benchmarking Records

A Samsung smartphone believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S7 is being hailed as the “most powerful smartphone ever,” after benchmarking tests have allegedly revealed that the as-yet-unannounced device has proved to be record-breaking.

The AnTuTu tests were posted to Weibo and reported upon by WCCFTech, highlighting that the Samsung device had obtained a score of 95,972 points, with an earlier leak of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 suggesting that it had earned a score of a vastly inferior (but still impressive) 69,702 points. The benchmarking results place the upcoming smartphone far ahead of the competition meaning, if true, this will be the most powerful smartphone we’ve yet seen by a considerable margin.

There are a few caveats, though. Firstly, this benchmark could be a fake, and secondly, it could potentially be the score of a device that isn’t the Galaxy S7, with a rumored 8.4-inch Note tablet being another likely candidate. That would make this benchmark result still impressive, but undoubtedly not as alluring to consumers as a smartphone would be.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is touted for release next year, with leaked internal documents having already alleging that Samsung is testing out a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, a curious decision considering the Galaxy S6 sported Samsung’s own chipset after the Snapdragon 810 was shown to have problems with overheating. If the 820 is being utilized in the S7, either the processor has undergone a substantial improvement or it lends more credibility to the benchmark test being inaccurate. It looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to know for sure.
