Redesigned 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Officially on Its Way

After a lot of teasing and a few different auto show roll-outs, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is in full production for the Japanese automaker. In no time, they’ll be stacked like cordwood and shipped to hungry dealerships all across the purple majesty waves of mountain grain.

The redesigned 2016 Mazda Miata MX-5 debuted late last year in Monterey, Calif. Easily the most popular roadster in production today — and, in fact, arguably the only roadster in production today — the MX-5 is Mazda’s most iconic model and just coming off its 25th anniversary.

The 2016 MX-5 left the old Miata’s bug-ish aesthetic for a more aggressive look in keeping with the automaker’s successful Kodo/Soul in Motion design language.

The rear haunches slope downward from a rear-mounted cockpit — reminiscent of a tiny Maserati. The hood stretches longer, sloping low to hooded headlights, a bit like an SRT Viper. There are no more rounded corners and pregnant wheel wells.

Exact specs, pricing, options and ordering procedures will hit the world on May 5, 2015 when the MX-5 website’s countdown goes active.
