Windows 10 Release Date Revealed by AMD CEO

Windows 10’s launch date has seemingly been unwittingly revealed by AMD CEO Lisa Su.

Su, who would know the release date given that AMD is a partner with Microsoft, let the information slip whilst answering a question during AMD’s earnings call.

The CEO said: “With the Windows 10 launch at the end of July, we are watching sort of the impact of that on the back-to-school season, and expect that it might have a bit of a delay to the normal back-to-school season inventory build-up.”

While the Windows 10 Technical Preview is currently available to download, allowing users to get to grips with the new operating system prior to its launch, the date for its commercial release has thus far been a mystery outside of Microsoft’s tentative launch window of summer 2015. Su’s comments all but confirm that we are just around the corner from the release of the new OS, which is on track to change Microsoft’s fortunes following the disappointing reception Windows 8 received.

Windows 10 is a bold step in a new direction for Microsoft, who are combining consumers’ favorite facets of Windows of old whilst simultaneously ensuring that the new OS becomes the center of its own ecosystem, with the likes of Windows Phones set to take advantage of the cross-connectivity Windows 10 will provide.

With Windows 7 and, alarmingly, even Windows XP having more users than Windows 8, Microsoft is looking to dramatically increase the number of users who get on board with Windows 10, even making it free for a year for existing Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users.
