Travel-Friendly Globalgig SIM Expands Coverage For Aussies

Internationally focused SIM card provider Globalgig has announced expanded 4G coverage and improved international roaming rates.

A top option for Aussies who frequently find themselves with just a backpack, the bare essentials and a plane ticket, Globalgig now has access the Optus 4G network on home soil while also offering a 4G service in the UK, as well as improved network coverage in a further 80 countries.

Launched at the end of 2012, Globalgig and other international SIMs mean Aussie travellers no longer have to fork out huge amounts for surprise smartphone bills or lurk around free WiFi hotspots. The company’s new pricing 4G Flexi format kicks off at $5 per month with an included 250MB of data. Other plans include 1GB for $10, 3GB for $20, 5GB for $30 and 10GB for $50 per month. Users travelling overseas then pay a maximum of $0.25 per MB depending on the country.

The rapidly rising SIM provider featured 3G access in three countries when it first launched, but upped that number to 40 early last year.

“We’ve come a long way from the company that just over two years ago offered mobile broadband in three countries. We’ve moved from 3G to 4G and from 3 countries to 40 countries last year and now 84 countries this year,” Globalgig general manager James Broadman said.

“Our goal has always been to challenge the unfair pricing of certain telcos and mobile broadband providers and we continue to do just that. Our fundamentals have remained the same – low cost mobile broadband in Australia, low cost mobile broadband overseas, no lock-in contracts and no bill shock.”
