Riding Harley-Davidson through Glacier National Park

There are certain places on the Earth where it seems that no one could possibly take a bad picture — journalist or otherwise. Glacier National Park is undoubtedly one of those.

Harley-Davidson recently partnered with Best Western to explore the splendor of Montana from the back of the motorcycle maker’s 2014 touring rides. While the trip stretched from Helena to Missoula to Shelby and back again, the crown jewel of the journey was an afternoon spent riding through the wonders of Glacier National Park. Sitting midway through the Continental Divide and straddling the U.S./Canadian border, Glacier National covers more than 1 million acres.

One main road runs from the park’s west and east ends, passing through two mountain ranges, more than 130 lakes, countless waterfalls and wildlife. Form the back of a motorcycle, I felt sorry for those visitors who were taking the sights in by car. The bike allows a man to pass through the open air. Maybe a pedal bike lets you take it all in more slowly, but I’d hate to kick one up the 9,000′ peaks the park includes.

In days to come, you’ll find travel stories on the new and improved line of Best Western Hotels and reviews of the motorcycles ridden along the way. For now, enjoy this gallery of photos taken from the back of a bike.
