Intercontinental Hotel New Orleans Reinvents Itself

While the traveler-friendly French Quarter holds plenty of major chain, boutique and luxury hotels, the Intercontinental Hotel New Orleans positions itself a little differently.

Rising above downtown in the American Quarter, closer to the Financial District than the never-ending parties of Bourbon Street, the Intercontinental Hotel New Orleans is more than accommodations for tourists. It’s a Four Star large property able to host conferences and business activities across the board.

With the dust clears, the hotel will offer 484 re-created guest rooms, new meeting space and upgraded restaurant from New Orleans Chef Jim Richard.

The renovation is a brilliant move by the minds behind the hotel. Its old layout was odd — with visitors entering on the first floor and having to check in on the second. And, the rooms — while adequate and comfortable — lacked a sense of New Orleans luxury or atmosphere. They could’ve been rooms you’d find anywhere else at an Intercontinental.

While the redesigned hotel doesn’t resort to slapping a Fleur de Lis on everything, the introduction of local themed art and a more opulent lobby bode well for the well-established property.

As it settles down into its new look and identity, the Intercontinental Hotel New Orleans should become a prime option for travelers looking to enjoy what the Crescent City has to offer without wanting to stay inside the more tourist trafficked French Quarter.
