Conan O’Brien Makes Fun of Apple’s AirPods

Conan O’Brien poked fun at Apple’s recently revealed AirPods, mimicking the infamous multi-colored iPod ads but with the caveat that those dancing along to their music are now forced to deal with constantly losing their new wireless earbuds.

Apple announced during last week’s Apple Event that the iPhone 7 would not boast a headphone jack, with the company instead making the transition to digital audio by way of their new AirPods. Though AirPods look very similar to the company’s EarPods, they now connect to your Apple devices wirelessly via Bluetooth, which has caused many to point out that they will be far easier to lose than their predecessors. This criticism intensified when it was revealed that the AirPods would retail for a pricey $149.

Conan parodied the uproar surrounding the AirPods in a sketch on his late-night talk show, showing silhouetted AirPod users dancing to music with the AirPods a la Apple’s famous iPod ads. However, in his rendition of these commercials, the dancers continuously lose their AirPods and are forced to frequent the Apple Store in order to buy themselves a new set.

Hopefully our own experiences with the AirPods won’t mimic this skit, and at the very least Apple is offering a cable that allows iPhone 7 users to connect their wired headphones to their device, meaning that if you’re not on board with the AirPods then you do have an alternative method of listening to audio on the smartphone.
