This UFO Home Will Let You Sleep With the Sharks

The Unidentified Floating Object – or “UFO” for short – is a brand new home design concept that will soon be making its way to Kickstarter, with it presenting a unique living option for those who wish that their current abode was at least partially submerged in water.

The UFO is a “living floating house” that does what it says on the tin. With it adopting a design similar to that of a flying saucer, hence its name, the UFO allows those inside it to both take in the views of the surrounding sea on its upper deck, before retreating underwater to its lower deck. It’s self-sufficient, utilizing solar energy, wind power and water power in order to keep it functioning, with it equipped with an elastic anchor in order to keep it in place. It can also slowly move around at a low speed 3.5 knots (6.5 km/h), if you want to explore the world at a very leisurely pace.

The concept for the UFO also features a vegetable garden, allowing its inhabitants to grow their own fresh produce. Clean, drinkable water would also be provided by way of the UFO’s water generator, which will be capable of converting both rain and seawater.

The UFO has been conceptualized by Jet Capsule, the company previously responsible for the mini yachts of the same name. According to the company, the floating home’s interior will “consist of a transformable kitchen and dining/living area on a 20-sq. m (215-sq. ft.) top level, with stairs leading down to a 10-sq. m (107-sq. ft.) submerged lower level.” It will also feature a “bathroom and bedroom surrounded by a large window for viewing sea life,” meaning you can watch sharks swim by while you brush your teeth of a morning.

After initially seeking funding from investors when announcing the UFO earlier this year, Jet Capsule has now stated on its official page that the project will be making its way to the crowdfunding site Kickstarter at some point in the near future. The company is currently developing a working prototype.
