Enjoying Elite Dining, Cocktails at Kohler’s Immigrant, Winery

While it’s ambiance is formal, it’s menu and cocktail selections are friendly and inviting. That’s the Immigrant Restaurant – the American Club-based establishment famed for its winning of a Wine Spectator “Best of Award of Excellence” and AAA Four Diamond Status.

A part of the sprawling Kohler resort complex, The Immigrant is low lighting and wood-lined walls. The restaurant rules include sport coats for men and appropriate dress for women. The staff is hyper attentive, and the menu refined. The multi course meal includes locally sourced ingredients and wine pairings to enhance the meat, fish and pasta selections.

The cocktail listings are all unique to The American Club. Since I’m a travel writer, I opted for the Passports & Postcards – a classic creation invented at the resort decades ago. It’s a blend of Don Q Anejo Tequila, Campari, Pineapple Juice, Orange Juice and Curry. It’s a fruit, rich and refreshing glass — with just a little heat for body.

Other of The Winery and Immigrant’s signature creations include the Carrot 43 (a Martini including Hendricks Gin, Carrot Juice, Lemon and Orange) and the Jasmine Fizz (Nolet’s Gin, Jasmine Blossom, honey and lemon). That might not be the most manly set of ingredients, but it still packs some class.

Of course, The American Club is deep in the heart of Wisconsin, and the official state cocktail is the Old-Fashioned. The Immigrant and Winery’s in-house take on that stand by is the DeLuxardo Old-Fashioned. The long standing recipe includes Templeton Rye, Luxardo, cherries, orange and both cherry and orange bitters.
