Watch Dogs Not Ready for Release, Delayed to 2014 on All Platforms

Is Watch Dogs on your list of titles to get for your next-gen console—maybe even part of your PS4 bundle? Well, it isn’t any longer.

Ubisoft has confirmed that Watch Dogs will no longer be launching this year. Instead, it’s been delayed until Spring 2014 for all platforms, including Xbox One and PS4.

The following explanation was posted alongside the news on UbiBlog:

Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014.

They added:

We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

Although the game looks great, we got the feeling from the demo at this year’s NYCC that development time was coming down to the wire. Eating up a few more months of development expenses is much better than launching without the polish a game like this deserves.

Ubisoft isn’t in total despair, though. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is looking very sharp and is only weeks away.
