Louis Van Gaal Admits Manchester United Will Probably Lose De Gea to Real Madrid

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that the club will likely lose David de Gea to Real Madrid, with speculation continuing to mount that the goalkeeper will make his departure from the Premier League club at the end of this season.

During Man U’s tense 1-1 draw with Arsenal, chants echoed around the arena from Arsenal fans taunting Man U regarding De Gea’s alleged move to Spain. Now Van Gaal has addressed the concerns of Man U’s fans, explaining how it will be difficult to convince De Gea to not make a move to the La Liga outfit.

Speaking to Sky Sports following the Arsenal match, Van Gaal said: “He is Spanish, he is Spanish international and now a Spanish club is coming. His girlfriend is Spanish, his father and mother come every week or every two weeks here. So it is difficult.”

De Gea came to United from Madrid’s La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid in 2011, and after a shaky start with the club he’s now looking better than ever at 24 years old, with Madrid expressing a keen interest in luring him away from England. Judging by Van Gaal’s reaction, it seems that this will likely be the case after the current Premier League season concludes next week.

Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague previously stated that De Gea had yet to make a concrete decision regarding the future of his career, though he conceded that it was looking likely he was set for a move away from United. Gary Neville said that he believed Man U should approach Madrid for Gareth Bale if the De Gea transfer is to go through, though Van Gaal has yet to express an interest in the former Tottenham player.
