The CW Greenlights DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

The DC Universe is continuing to expand on The CW. The much anticipated spinoff of The Flash and Arrow has been given a name and a series order from The CW.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will reunite several heroes and villains from The Flash and Arrow, including Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/The Canary, Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein, Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, and Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heatwave.

Ciara Renee is set to play Hawkgirl on Legends of Tomorrow, with Franz Drameh as an unspecified hero, and former Doctor Who companion Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, a time traveling hero who assembles the odd team of heroes and villains to combat a world-ending threat.

The official synopsis of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has also been released:

“When heroes alone are not enough … the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?”

Arrow executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim are keeping the same roles on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. A teaser trailer for the series may debut next week during the season finales of The Flash and Arrow.

The CW will unveil its Fall 2015 TV schedule later this month.
