WonderCon 2015: Star Trek & Green Lantern Crossover Coming In July

One of the biggest stories to come out of this weekend’s WonderCon 2015 was the joint announcement that DC Comics and IDW are teaming up for another crossover.

The two companies previously joined forces for a Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes crossover. But this summer, it’s Green Lantern who will meet the original crew of the Enterprise in Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War, a six issue miniseries.

As you can see from the cover image, the likenesses of the Star Trek reboot cast are being used for this project. Veteran Star Trek comic writer Mike Johnson is scripting The Spectrum War for artist Angel Hernandez.

According to IDW, the story will take place in the 23rd Century of Star Trek’s timeline, as Green Lantern rings come into the possession of a few iconic Trek characters as they prepare to take on “a dark and powerful evil.” The cover image suggests that a Klingon is in possession of one of the Sinestro Corps rings.

In a statement, IDW President Greg Goldstein said “ “We’ve looked forward to bringing these two iconic universes together for a long time. Star Trek and Green Lantern both share so many of the same science-fiction adventure themes and ideals, that a galaxy-spanning crossover like this is simply…logical.”

IDW also released a very minimal cover image by the prolific Francesco Francavilla.

Star Trek comics have previously crossed over with Doctor Who, Planet of The Apes and X-Men, although a rumored Star Trek and Superman crossover never materialized when Star Trek was published by DC Comics.

Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War # 1 will be released in July 2015.
