The Walking Dead Spinoff Series Gets Two Season Order

For two years, AMC has been developing a companion/spinoff series for The Walking Dead. Today, the inevitable finally occurred.

AMC has officially ordered the first and second seasons of the currently untitled Walking Dead companion series. The first season will consist of six episodes, which echos the first season order of The Walking Dead. The episode count for the second season of The Walking Dead companion series hasn’t been determined, but it will likely be between 13 and 16 episodes.

The series is set before the events of The Walking Dead and it takes place in Los Angeles at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey are headlining the series, which was created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson.

Noting the risk of diluting the brand of one of TV’s biggest hits, AMC President Charlie Collier said “We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television. From the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out. We respectfully follow the request of Monty Python as we bring out (the latest of) our Dead.”

The Walking Dead companion series will debut this summer on AMC.
