The Top 10 TV Dramas of 2014

By now, it should come as no surprise that the greatest TV dramas are on cable. Most of the major broadcast networks haven’t realized that there’s more to TV than cop dramas, medical dramas, legal dramas and serialized soap operas.

The reason those genres are still dominating the airwaves is because they play very broadly and they’re very “safe” television. But conventional wisdom is dead, my friends. The broadcast networks just haven’t figured it out yet.

We live in a world where “The Walking Dead” not only outpaces its broadcast network competition, but also Sunday Night Football! A drama series on HBO set in a medieval world with dragons is not only among the best shows on TV, but also an increasingly huge hit across the board.

Television is surpassing film as a storytelling medium. This is why movie stars are flocking to star in limited run TV series while directors like Steven Soderbergh and Martin Scorsese are also coming out to play.

The new golden age of TV dramas isn’t over yet. It’s an exciting time to be a fan of great television. If you can’t find a drama that you like on TV then you aren’t trying hard enough.

As part of our annual tradition, CraveOnline has assembled a list of The Top 10 TV Dramas of 2014. And it was a much harder year to pin down compared to the last few years of television. Because taste in television is always subjective, some of our picks may not correspond with yours. So, feel free to share your picks in the comment section below!
