FX Puts ‘From Hell’ Into Development

Legendary comic scribe Alan Moore infamously denounced the 2001 film adaptation of his From Hell comic book series and he swore off of Hollywood’s attempts to bring his stories to the screen. But Moore’s decision came too late to stop League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V For Vendetta and Watchmen from being adapted as well.

Thirteen years later, From Hell executive producer Don Murphy is trying again. According to Deadline, FX is developing “From Hell” as a drama with Murphy once again on board as an executive producer. However, the Hughes brothers (who directed the film) are not attached to this remake.

Originally published in 1989, From Hell was a comic book series written by Moore and drawn by Eddie Campbell that followed Jack the Ripper through the infamous Whitechapel murders and the aftermath. From Hell was also meticulously researched by Moore and included over forty pages of historical footnotes.

David Arata (Children Of Men) is attached to write the “From Hell” TV pilot, with Fox TV Studios and FX Productions slated to co-produce the potential series for FX.
