First Look: Amazing Spider-Man # 9

It’s finally here. The Spider-Verse storyline has crashed into the 616 Marvel Universe and Peter Parker’s life is about to be turned upside down.

Here’s the short version for those of you who haven’t been keeping up with Dan Slott’s Amazing Spider-Man run. Peter discovered that a young woman (Silk) was also bitten by the radioactive spider that gave him his super powers. Silk had been in voluntary exile for years before Peter released her. But that drew the attention of Peter’s old foe, Morlun and the Inheritors; who are now on a relentless march through the multiverse to kill every version of Spider-Man that ever existed.

Not even the Saturday morning cartoon Spider-Men are safe. Morlun killed the cast of “Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends” with such brutality that Aunt May will probably have a heart attack when she finds the bodies and Ms. Lion will be forced to eat their remains to survive.

Probably. I’m just guessing there.

Amazing Spider-Man # 9 is the official starting point of Spider-Verse and Olivier Coipel is coming on to the title for this storyline. I don’t always say this about our comic previews, but Coipel’s art is so impressive that even Peter Porker, The Spectacular Spider-Ham looks… incredible. Or should I say, “Amazing?”

The preview pages bring Peter Parker face-to-face with most of his fellow Spider-heroes in the present, as well as a few from the alternate Earths. But we don’t get to see Peter’s reaction to the leader of the Spider-Men: Otto “Doctor Octopus” Octavius… The Superior Spider-Man!

Marvel will be releasing Amazing Spider-Man # 9 on Wednesday, November 5.
