Taylor Kitsch Confirms ‘True Detective’ Season 2 Role

Last month, Colin Farrell admitted that he was the new star of HBO’s “True Detective” anthology before the network could make its own announcement. This month, Taylor Kitsch has also jumped the gun with a “True Detective” announcement.

While speaking to Adweek, Kitsch not only confirmed the rumors that he will be in the new season of “True Detective,” he also said that “I can’t f***ing wait to hit camera. I loved that first season of it so much. It’s just unlike anything I’ve seen in, you know, I don’t know when. And it was so grounded. It could really happen. This is very similar, and I love that. It makes it more relatable. It makes these guys more real.”

Kitsch also told Adweek that he had taken a year off from on-camera performances before landing his current role. “I’m really excited. I’ve just been prepping. It’s been almost a full year since I’ve been on camera, so I’m itching, man. I’m overdue. You’ve just got to grind it out. Even taking this year off was, I mean you want to work, but you also don’t want to just water it down and work for the sake of working. So, it was tough to sit a year out, keeping a finger crossed that I was going to get True [Detective].”

Although Kitsch recently co-starred in HBO’s The Normal Heart, his best known TV run was in “Friday Night Lights.” Kitsch also starred in Disney’s John Carter movie, in addition to roles in Savages, Battleship, Lone Survivor and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (pictured above).

For “True Detective” Season 2, Kitsch’s character is said to be Paul Woodrugh, “a handsome, 28-year-old military veteran who has seen his own share of violence and destruction.”

In addition to Kitsch and Farrell, Vince Vaughn is also confirmed to have a large role in “True Detective” Season 2. Rachel McAdams is reportedly in talks to play the female lead for the second season, but neither HBO nor McAdams has confirmed her part in the season.

But if Kitsch felt confident enough to make a statement now, then it is very likely that HBO will make its own “True Detective” casting announcements in the near future.
