Earlier this week, HBO confirmed Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn as two of the new leads in “True Detective” Season 2. And now the female lead may join them shortly.
Variety is reporting that Rachel McAdams is “locking down the lead role” for the second season of “True Detective.” McAdams will play of three police detectives who attempt to unravel a conspiracy in the wake of a murder. Farrell will portray a “compromised detective” named Ray Velcoro, while Vaughn is set to appear as Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”
McAdams emerged as the frontrunner for the role in the last few weeks, but the holdup was reportedly due to her commitment to film Spotlight, a drama centering on the Catholic Church sex scandal. Reportedly, McAdams’ schedule has been reworked to allow her to take on both projects. Prior to this role, McAdams was best known for her appearances in Red Eye, Mean Girls, State of Play, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Midnight In Paris and The Vow. She also co-starred with Vaughn in Wedding Crashers.

The Variety story also notes that Taylor Kitsch remains likely to get the remaining male lead role for “True Detective” Season 2.
Director Justin Lin has also been confirmed as the director of the first two episodes for the new season of “True Detective.” HBO has not yet set a date for “True Detective’s” return, but it will likely be back in 2015.
