POP Montreal Is In Full Swing

The 13th edition of POP Montreal began on Wednesday and runs until Sunday, and the line-up this year includes performances by Sheryl Crow, Ronnie Spector, and Suzanne Vega.

The Unicorns will also hit the stage with their only show in Canada, their first headlining show since their recent return to the stage, and their only show outside their announced concert dates with Arcade Fire. Also on the POP Montreal bill is original ska legend Stranger Cole, American punk rockers Whirr, local Grammy award winning children’s singer Jennifer Gasoi with her first Montreal gig since her “big win”, experimental popsmiths Ricky Eat Acid from the Orchid Tapes label, as well a rare performance by hometown band Dishwasher.

This year also marks the 10th anniversary of Art POP, and organizers have put together a first-ever collaborative art project between artist Dominique Pétrin and LOVE Québec, who works to reduce violence in the lives of local teenagers.

Film POP, in collaboration with the monthly screening series of experimental docs VISIONS, celebrates the 25th anniversary of René Lussier’s phenomenal and groundbreaking album Le trésor de la langue (1989). The album will be “shown” in its entirety, with a live musical performance and Q&A session with René Lussier.

POP Montreal wraps up on Sunday, September 21st.
