TNT Is Developing DC Comics’ Titans As a Live Action TV Series

The premiere of the Batman prequel, “Gotham” is just over a week away, but it looks like a former Robin may get his own TV series in the near future.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that TNT is developing “Titans” as a live action TV series based upon the classic DC comic book series, The Teen Titans. First introduced as a team of superhero sidekicks by Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani, the original lineup included Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad and Wonder Girl before Speedy joined them in a later issue.

However, the most famous incarnation of the Teen Titans was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez in 1980, as the original Robin took on the new superhero name of Nightwing while being joined by Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Wonder Girl and Kid Flash.

The TNT “Titans” series appears to be based on the Wolfman and Perez team. It will reportedly follow “a 20-something version of Robin who changed his moniker to Nightwing, as well as the new heroes Starfire, Raven and Cyborg.” And the word “Teen” appears to have been dropped entirely.

“The Teen Titans” has been adapted twice as an animated series for Cartoon Network, including the current series “Teen Titans Go!” Several of the Titans characters were also featured in the “Young Justice” animated series.

Akiva Goldsman (Batman & Robin) is co-writing the “Titans” pilot script with Marc Haimes.

Earlier this week, word broke that a “Supergirl” TV series is also being shopped around to various networks. If “Supergirl” and “Titans” manage to get series orders, they would join “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “Gotham” and “Constantine” as currently running live action DC series on TV.
