Leonard DiCaprio Nominates Stephen Harper For Ice Bucket Challenge

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who is apparently in northern Alberta visiting the oilsands for an environmental documentary project, took the ALS ice bucket challenge, and then he challenged Prime Minister Stephen Harper to do the same.

According to The Canadian Press, Harper’s press secretary released a statement saying that the prime minister, who had already received challenges from other participants in the last few days, was asked to either dump a bucket of ice water over his head or make a donation, which he apparently did the latter.

DiCaprio did the ice bucket challenge alongside two First Nations chiefs.

Established in 1985, The ALS Association is the only national non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease by leading the way in global research, providing assistance for people with ALS through a nationwide network of chapters, coordinating multidisciplinary care through certified clinical care centers, and fostering government partnerships. The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure. According to the ALS Association website, as of Monday, August 25th, they have received $79.7 million in donations compared to $2.5 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 25). These donations have come from existing donors and 1.7 million new donors to The Association because of the ALS ice bucket challenge.
