HBO’s ‘Westworld’ Casts Six New Roles

Last month, HBO’s “Westworld” pilot took a major step forward with the addition of Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood to the main cast. Now a few of the other starring roles have been cast.

According to TVLine, Jeffrey Wright (“Boardwalk Empire”), Rodrigo Santoro (“Lost”), Shannon Woodward (“Raising Hope”), Ingrid Bolso Berdal (Hercules), Angela Sarafyan (“The Good Guys”) and Simon Quarterman (The Devil Inside) have been added to the “Westworld” pilot.

As envisioned by novelist Michael Crichton in his 1973 film of the same name, Westworld was part of a futuristic theme park that featured androids who rebelled against their virtual slavery to their human masters. The new “Westworld” TV series will explore the same themes as the original movie

For HBO’s “Westworld,” Wright will portray Bernard Lowe, “the brilliant and quixotic head of the park’s Programming Division, Bernard’s keen observation of human nature provides him with boundless inspiration for his life’s work: creating artificial people.”

Santoro will play Harlan Bell, the “most wanted” bandit in Westworld who embraces the idea of being a predator and he also has a dark sense of humor. Woodward is taking on the role of Elsie King, a programmer who is in charge of diagnosing the sometimes strange behavior of the androids within the theme park.

Additionally, Berdal is playing a brutal bandit named Armistice, while Sarafyan is portraying Clementine Pennyfeather, the “beguiling” hostess of one of Westworld’s most popular attractions. Quarterman will play Westworld’s narrative director, Lee Sizemore.

The previously cast Hopkins will play Dr. Robert Ford, the visionary behind Westworld, while Wood plays Dolores Abernathy, a midwestern farmer’s daughter who is blindsided by the revelation that she is an android.

“Person of Interest” co-creator, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy wrote the script for “Westworld,” and they will executive produce the potential series alongside J.J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub and Bryan Burk.
