The Queen Just Photobombed The Hockeyroos

The selfie of Australian Hockeyroos Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris at their opening match at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games has quickly gone viral, thanks to some cheeky photobombing action from Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen attended the Glasgow Hockey Stadium to meet the team after Australia’a opening match against Malaysia, which the Hockeyroos won 4-0. Taylor and Peris timed the selfie deliberately to try and capture the Queen as she walked out, but did not expect her cheery reaction and captured her smiling directly at the camera.

Taylor posted her picture on Twitter, adding the caption, “Ahhh The Queen photo-bombed our selfie!! #royalty #sheevensmiled #amazing”. She later tweeted, “@TheEllenShow I think our selfie tops yours! #queenselfie #queenphotobomb #hockeyroos #callme.”

Taylor said the players also met with the Queen after the game. “She asked us a bit about the pitch, how we were going and told us to enjoy our time here. She was lovely – really, really lovely,” she said.

Reports Fairfax, the photobombing provided a light-hearted moment surrounding an emotional match where players wore black armbands in the wake of last week’s Malaysia Airlines disaster. The photobomb has been retweeted over 10,000 times.
