Comic-Con 2014: Warren Ellis & Gale Anne Hurd Team For New TV Series

Comic-Con International’s Preview Night is just under way, but there’s already some news out of the convention.

According to Deadline, comic book writer and novelist Warren Ellis is making the jump to television with an untitled series that is being executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead”) for Universal Cable Productions.

Ellis is one of the best known writers in the comic book industry thanks to his stints on The Authority, Planetary, Iron Man, Red, Moon Knight and Global Frequency. Ellis has previously written an episode of “Justice League Unlimited” and the animated “G.I. Joe: Resolute,” but his new project will be his first live action series created for TV.

In a statement, Ellis said “I’ve been strongly drawn to television over the last few years, and working with brilliant and determined collaborators like Gale and the UCP team, I’m delighted at the opportunity to add my voice to the new, novelistic TV form that’s evolved so dramatically,”

Further details about Ellis’ new show were not announced.

Deadline is also reporting that NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment has picked up the TV rights for Rick Remender and Kieron Dwyer’s Night Mary comic book miniseries, which followed a troubled young woman with the ability to enter the dreams of other people.
