Lucy Griffiths Leaves NBC’s ‘Constantine’

Last spring, former “True Blood” actress Lucy Griffiths was cast as Liv, the female lead on NBC’s “Constantine,” based upon the DC Comics character John Constantine (Matt Ryan). As originally conceived, Liv was a woman who teamed up with Constantine after she developed the ability to see supernatural creatures.

According to The Hollywood Reporter. plans have changed and Griffiths is leaving “Constantine” after “the show’s creators opted to move in a different direction.” Liv will not be recast and her character will be written out of the series.

To replace Griffiths, the producers of “Constantine” are looking to cast a character named Zed, who appeared early in the Hellblazer comic book series as a former lover and partner of Constantine’s. Zed will be the first character from Hellblazer to appear in “Constantine” other than John Constantine himself. However, the report states that more Hellblazer characters will be incorporated into the series.

The pilot for “Constantine” will be shown at Comic-Con International in two weeks. NBC has scheduled the first episode of “Constantine” to air on Friday, October 24.
