Maroons’ Will Chambers Under Police Investigation

A police investigation into an assault allegedly involving Maroon winger Will Chambers threatens to throw off the Queensland preparation for next week’s State of Origin III.

A Channel Nine report claims Chambers’ involvement in a Brisbane bar room altercation has now become a police investigation after authorities received a formal complaint earlier today.

Chambers allegedly knocked a Down Under Bar patron to the floor at around 2am on Tuesday morning. Other Maroons players Billy Slater, Ben Te’o and Aidan Guerra were also said to be have been in attendance.

“Chambers is alleged to have had an argument with a female patron, leading to him pushing the man who has contacted Qld police,” tweeted News Corp journalist Pete Badel.

“(Victim) has lodged a formal complaint over common assault against Chambers. The NRL integrity unit is aware of the alleged incident.”

Maroons coach Mal Meninga met today with local authorities, however players have yet to be interviewed by police.

“We have been made aware of the alleged incident from last night, we are fully co-operating with the relative authorities to determine the facts,” the Maroons said in a statement.

The team was on media duty in Brisbane yesterday before meeting for drinks last night and travelling today to the Gold Coast for camp.

The 26-year-old debutant was a recent call-up for the injured Brent Tate, who suffered a serious knee injury in Origin II.

The news comes just days after Cronulla’s Todd Carney was given the boot for an incident at a Sydney bar, exposed via social media.
