Game Of Thrones Is Now HBO’s Most Popular Show Ever

Westeros has officially bested New Jersey with HBO announcing today that its Emmy-award winning fantasy drama Game of Thrones is its most popular series ever, stealing the crown from mobster drama The Sopranos

HBO announced the fourth season of the fantasy epic clocks in an average 18.4 million viewers per episode, figures that also take into account video on demand and delayed viewings, breaking the 18.2 million viewer record set by The Sopranos‘ 2002 season.

Impressively, from its third to current fourth season Game Of Thrones has increased its viewership by a whopping four million. The introduction of on demand services has resulted in a growth of ratings figures that had plummeted over the last decade, as viewer habits changed.

The series, based on the novels by George R.R. Martin, has two episodes remaining in its fourth season, while HBO has already committed to making a fifth and sixth series, giving the people of Westeros, however many of them are left, even more opportunity to blitz their own new record.
