Pirates Burned by Secret Bitcoin Miner in Watch Dogs Torrent

It appears as though hacking really does have its price. Or piracy does, at least.

Users who unwisely opted to download a leaked copy of Watch Dogs prior to the game’s official release are experiencing a rather unpleasant side effect; a virus that bogs down PC performance, induces blue screens, and mines bitcoins for the rogue program’s clever creator. Well done, you savvy internet thieves! You may have thought you’d gained early access to one of the summer’s hottest titles, but you’re actually donating CPU cycles so some Aiden Pearce wannabe can score big with cryptocurrency instead. Sounds like the plot to a videogame or something.

If you’re one of the unlucky (not so) few victims of the Watch Dogs mining scheme, your best bet is to run some serious virus scans, but only after you’ve uninstalled the game. I always recommend Avast’s boot-time option, because it scans before Windows even starts, allowing it to catch most things as long as a match resides within its current virus definitions. Of course, I haven’t been able to test Avast on this particular virus, because I’m not a dingus.

Watch Dogs is available for purchase legally today, so check out our review below, and get to hacking.
