Google Play Comes To Canada

Google Play, Google’s music streaming service, is now available to Canadians – it has been going strong south of the border in the US since 2011.

Canucks will have access to millions different songs, playlists, and more. The announcement is also great timing-wise, given Canadian Music Week kicks off today. For an introductory price of $7.99/month (and then $9.99/month afterward), users will have unlimited access to 25 million songs as well as digital radio channels featuring different genres and playlists curated by experts, both via web stream or offline (CBC News).

“The licensing is not so straight forward in Canada,” Zahavah Levine told The Globe and Mail, when asked why it took so long for the service to reach the Great White North. “It’s not just that it is complicated, it’s that some of our features have never been licensed before for this territory.”
